Under the Black Sun is one of Europe’s longest-running and most respected underground extreme metal festivals. Held deep in the forests near Berlin, the festival is renowned for its uncompromising curation of true black metal and raw death metal acts, emphasizing atmosphere, authenticity, and sonic violence over commercial appeal. With a deliberately intimate capacity and an outdoor woodland setting, UTBS captures the raw spirit of the genre: no frills, no trends—just pure, unrelenting black metal in its most feral form. The festival traditionally runs over three days in early July and has hosted both cult legends and emerging underground acts from across Europe and beyond.
